I’ve been blessed with two dogs that both have food allergies. It it impossible to find treats that they can both eat, so I decided to start making my own. Here’s the recipe in case any of you are in the same boat as me.
3/4 C. Hot Water
1/3 C. Margarine ( I used canola oil, any oil will do. Use what’s best for your pup.) Coconut oil would also be a great choice, since it is so good for your pup. Kills yeast in your pups system, and shines up their coat.
1/2 C. Powdered Milk ( I didn’t have any, so I’ve used wheat germ, or corn meal in place of this. Flax can be used to, but my gals are allergic to it. Corn can be a common allergen for dogs, surprisingly it’s something that neither of mine are allergic to.)
1 tsp. Salt
1 Egg beaten ( My girls are allergic to eggs. You can substitute one whole banana + tsp. baking powder, or 1/4 C. applesauce + 1 tsp. baking powder. )
3 C. Whole Wheat Flour ( I used organic pastry flour, because that’s what I had. Again, use whatever is best for your pup. )
Pour hot water over margarine in large bowl. Stir in powdered milk, salt and egg. Add flour, a 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form a stiff dough. Roll to 1/4″ thickness, and cut out shapes. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Mine got a little thick so I added another ten minutes on.
